Brooke + Danny

Brooke knew from the beginning that she wanted to be a counterpoint to her husband’s wedding outfit. But how? He was wearing vintage jeans and a modern button up with bow-tie and suspenders. Their wedding was taking place in an heirloom vineyard in Northern California and she wanted something unpretentious but beautiful. She wanted fun and vintage without feeling like she was wearing a costume. Nods to dustbowl chic flooded her mood board Salt:Weddings had her create.

Taking a note from the 1930s I decided to echo the shirtwaist style so prevalent in women’s wear from that time period. Rather than using a silk duchess or satin we utilized a raw silk slub from Italy thereby giving the dress an understated luxury. To update the shirtwaist style we made the placket asymmetrical and curved around the body. The “something old” was the depression era jade glass and gold leaf buttons. Underneath the raw silk was a custom-made silk lace petticoat that added a bit of flare.
